You Can Help Make a Difference--Here's How:
Community Bridges could not survive without the incredible support of our volunteers, contributors, and funders. To all, we extend our sincere appreciation. We welcome your support and involvement in our programs, whether it's through a donation of money, contribution of materials for our programs and office, or volunteering your time.

If you live in the Washington metropolitan area and have a passion for making a positive difference in the lives of disadvantaged girls, here are some ways you can get involved in our programs...
  • LUNA Tutoring: We are currently initiating a one-on-one tutoring program targeting METS (students with interrupted learning) and low achieving ESOL (english as a second language) middle and high school girls. Tutors help students in a variety of academic areas, including math, science, reading, and social studies. However, the tutors should be proficient in Spanish. (The program will meet starting in late January/ early February on Saturday mornings.)

  • Parent Circles: Spanish/English Language and American Cultural discussion circles for parents of Community Bridges’ girls. Research shows, “Many immigrant parents can become disconnected from their kids, who acclimate more quickly to the U.S., its language, school system and culture. The divide can deepen as children become teenagers, become more independent and pull away from their parents.” The goal of these circles is to both help immigrant parents learn English, and to keep them connected to their children. (Date and times TBA.)

  • DREAM Catchers: supports the development of 8th grade girls through a weekly mentoring program. Girls meet with their female adult mentors from their community to have dinner and address their academic, career and personal goals. (Wednesday nights, 6:30-8:00 pm.)

  • LUNA: works with middle school-aged, immigrant girls interested in becoming leaders and role models as they transition into their new communities. (Meets Mondays, 2:10-4:00pm, Tuesday-Thursday, 2:40-5:00 pm, and Friday, 10:40-noon, as well as 2:40-5:00 pm.)

  • Jump Start Girls!: encourages the tremendous potential of 8-to-15 year old girls. Jump start focuses on team-building, critical thinking, the arts, health and prevention, outdoor discovery and community action to develop self-confidence and self-expression. (2:40-5:00 pm, Monday-Fridays.)

  • Outdoor Adventure Camp builds on the leadership skills taught in the core programs during the school year. (Volunteers Needed in late spring and summer.)
Programs are held during the school year in the East Silver Spring and Takoma Park, MD area.
